Christmas gifts for college students, especially those living on their own for the first time, may include items for an apartment or dorm room. Jupiterimages/Comstock/Getty Images

Gift givers may choose from a host of options when deciding on a Christmas present for a college student. Most college kids struggle financially so any gift geared toward maintaining an apartment or dorm room, or a gift that can help lessen the high cost of a college education, usually is greatly appreciated.

Digital Readers

Digital readers, or devices that hold electronic books, are beneficial to most college students. The lightweight device prevents kids from having to carry a heavy pile of books throughout the day from class to class. The gift giver may decide to fill the digital reader ahead of time with the recipient's favorite books or required reading found on a class syllabus. Some devices also offer downloadable newspapers, magazines and blogs for sale.

Easy-to-Use Kitchen Appliances

Most college students, especially those living on their own for the first time, require easy-to-use kitchen appliances to prepare meals. These simple appliances include such items as quesadilla makers, panini presses, waffle irons, toaster ovens and rice cookers. Silly devices, like snow cone machines, s'mores makers and fondue kits, make a fun addition to any dorm room or apartment as well. You also may consider a subscription to a food or cooking magazine filled with easy recipes.

Bulletin or Dry Erase Boards

When living in an apartment or dorm room with multiple roommates, particularly college students with varying hectic schedules, it can become difficult to communicate with one another at times. As a result, a bulletin or dry erase board serves as a handy device to leave messages regarding upcoming bills, reminders about chores, issues pertaining to the apartment or an ideal spot for relaying phone messages. A series of notepads, pens and pencils can also come in handy, as well as a small telephone stand for holding those items.

Hampers and Laundry Bags

Living on their own, most college students remain responsible for their laundry. Collapsible hampers afford students more space in their sometimes cramped living quarters. College students who live close to their parents may bring their laundry home with them on the weekends making travel laundry bags an ideal Christmas gift for some kids. Students can use travel bags to easily transport laundry between their rooms and the neighboring laundry facilities.

Every child is born creative. Each and every child is blessed with a set of unique skills and talents which only require to be polished. We need to identify their talent and interests and help them work towards it. Each and every child, and adult, has a spark of . We just need to awaken it. Every time children create something new, it is a result of their observation, understanding and expression of their surroundings.

We as parents and teachers are in a unique position to foster or hamper their growth up to a certain point. Every child puts in their best but their success depends on the support and understanding of the parents and on the school environment. Do we encourage their ? Do we ask the right questions? What did you like about the activity? What were your feelings while engaged in the activity? What did you discover about yourself? Is there anything you need from me?

Today with cut backs in schools and discretionary funds for lessons it seems we need to hone in on what is really important and unique to our children. We should watch for clues. What type of activity seems to make them smile? Notice when they have an aptitude as well as the patience to explore something new. For example, if their interest is in music, provide opportunities or lessons if you can. Find someone to share lessons or barter for their expertise. It may seem like a hardship but what it can do to develop your child's is priceless. It can influence many of their choices later in life.

I remember my son decided he wanted to play violin in first grade. I dreaded those practice sessions. He was terrible at it, but he loved it. It sparked a lifelong interest and love of music. Later on he took up the saxophone and was in a jazz band and a marching band in high school. I don't believe we should force our children to take up any activity which is not their own choice. If their interest is in music or drama and we force them into , the child will lose both. I do believe in encouraging them to try something new. But if they don't like it, let it go.

It is the parents' responsibility to help their children identify and nurture their unique form of expression. It can be dance, the , music, or gardening. I believe we need to work and play with our children. We need to encourage them to see with all their senses. It may mean you need to take a sensory walk with your kids.

Take them to concert or a ballet. There are workbooks and on line craft/visual arts activities that you can explore together as a . Give your children an opportunity to express themselves through images not necessarily through words. Give them the space and the materials to explore, play and soar. Let your children know that there are infinite possibilities and more colors beyond the rainbow.

Company picnics are a great way to build employee morale. Many companies have their company picnics during the summer. Others prefer to wait until the fall though, as the weather turns cooler and the intense heat of summer is no longer a factor. Company picnics offer an opportunity for employees to socialize outside for the office while participating in contests, sports, and enjoy good food. Company picnics also foster interaction between employees at different levels of the corporate chain in a fun environment. Instructions

Things You'll Need

Budget

1)Organize a group of employees to help plan the company picnic. Even if the company is small, it is best to have several employees involved in planning the company picnic. This will allow for more input into the planning, and also reduce the chance of the majority of the workload falling on one or two people.

2)Choose a date for the company picnic. Find a date that you think will allow as many employees in the company as possible to attend. Keep in mind there probably won't be a date that will allow everyone to attend, so don't take too much time searching for that perfect date that might not exist. It's best to avoid choosing dates that are within a week of a federal holiday, as many employees plan vacations around those federal holidays.

3)Choose a location. If the company picnic is going to be held during work hours, it should be held at a location that is close to the office location. If it is held on a weekend, the location should be equal distant from the majority of employees to make it convenient. Make sure the location that is chosen has the amenities needed such as a covered dining area, space for games and activities and maybe a sports field or two. If you will be cooking your own food, make sure grilling is permitted at the location and equipment is available.

4)Decide if a caterer will be used to supply food or members of management will cook the food at the company picnic. This will help your company decide the budget for food. If using a caterer, make sure they know of all your needs. This could include items including sides, condiments, water, alcoholic beverages and snacks. If you are preparing the food yourself, make sure all of these items are purchased for the company picnic. Set a budget for purchases in that case and divide the shopping among several people.

5)Choose activities that will be held at the company picnic. Popular activities for company picnics including sports such as softball and volleyball. Many companies also choose to have team building games such as relay races. Other events are just for entertainment such as having the CEO or top executive of the company in a dunk tank.

6)Choose set up and clean up teams from the company for the company picnic. If a caterer is being used, they will do some of this work, but it's unlikely they will do all of the work. It's best to have these assignments set up ahead of time instead of looking for volunteers the day of the event.

Running an outdoor movie night as either a community fun night or a fundraiser is a lot easier than it sounds. Follow these steps to ensure a painless and really fun evening for the entire school.

Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

1)Allow the kids to choose the movie. You will probably have to choose from movies that are already out on DVD (unless you know some important people). Create a ballot like the one pictured and hold a vote at lunchtime.

2)Be sure to check with your district or principal about the rules for charging admission or asking for a donation at the door. Usually, if you ask for a $5 donation instead of charging for tickets, about 80 percent of the people will donate the $5.

3)Contact a local outdoor theater company. They will bring a screen (usually inflatable) and take care of the audio and visual components. Our school pays about $2,500 for the evening.

4)Set up tables to sell concessions such as popcorn, drinks, glow sticks-anything fun and appropriate for "the movies."

5)Have the parents bring beach chairs or bean bags to sit in. You'll want to skip the folding chairs; they are just too uncomfortable to endure for the duration of a movie.

6)Check with your most trusted weather source and choose a night when you can bet on having good weather.

7)Start as early as possible, so the kids don't get tired and cranky!

A holiday home rental agreement is a legally binding contract between the owner of a rental home and the person who rents it. The agreement holds the renter responsible for the time he occupies the rental home.

Parties

A holiday home rental agreement will list the owner and renter involved in the contract. Each party's name and contact information will be listed on the agreement. Alternately, a leasing agency can act on behalf of the holiday home owner.

Property

The agreement will list the address of the holiday home rental. Some agreements will also list a description of the property including the number of bathrooms and bedrooms. The maximum occupancy for the building will be listed on the agreement and is based on the number of beds available.

Terms

The terms and guidelines for the holiday home will be listed on the rental agreement. These terms will outline areas including deposits, insurance and cancellations. The payment schedule for the rent balance will be included in the agreement. The owner and renter must sign the agreement for the terms of the document to be legally binding.

Located on the mid north of NSW Australia, Forster is a great place to stop if you want to get out of Sydney and see some of the other things Australia has to offer. Forster is about 200 miles north of Sydney and is a popular holiday spot for Australians but it is often missed by international tourists.

Being originally from Sydney I have often been in the centre of Sydney and noticed that as soon as many tourists arrive in Sydney they leave. They go on tours to the Blue Mountains or the Hunter Valley and many get a car and drive. When you look at a map it's difficult to decide where to stop and what places are worth the turn off from the highway. My husband and I owned the ice cream parlor in the main street of Forster for many years and, while we got some overseas tourists, it is apparent that just go to the places promoted in the brochures, and who can blame them as they have limited information about the places in between.

The Forster Tuncurry area, which is two towns separated by a bridge which covers one of the most beautiful clear blue waterways you've ever seen, has a population of about 20,000 people. It has everything you could possibly want in a coastal holiday destination. Beautiful beaches, accommodation ranging from camping to five star apartments - something to suit everyone. There are food choices ranging from do it yourself BBQ facilities to top class restaurants. It's not quite as full on as other more touristy spots but it's more of a real Australian experience than many of the places in the tourist guides.

As well as being situated on the coast Forster is also on Wallis Lake which opens up a whole range of wonderful activities like kayaking and lake fishing, not to mention safe accessible swimming and water skiing. There are loads of walks ranging from long bush walks to pleasant coastal strolls. Anyone who's into fishing, diving or surfing won't be disappointed. There are a couple of great golf courses also. You can usually see dolphins off the break wall and when the season is right whale watching tours are popular.

In the Australian summer vacation period from late December to late January the place is packed with families having their ritualistic holiday that they wait for all year and at other times it's a pretty calm place that just goes about its business. The easiest way to get there is by car but you can also get a Greyhound bus from Sydney or a train to Newcastle then a bus which is a good way to see a bit of the country on the way.

The accommodation and eateries are situated pretty centrally so if you don't have a car most things are accessible on foot. There is a pretty good local bus service if you need to go anywhere else. The centralized nature of it is one of the things that many people say is it's best asset as you can drive there then leave the car parked for most of your stay which is really a contrast to the way most live their lives in the city these days and really gives people a chance to turn off.
